In medieval times, magical dragons were said to live in dark, damp caves, far from the light of civilization. But for at least one dragon and his family, home is the height of civilization: a French-style chateau in the heart of Toronto’s elegant Bridle Path.
Entrepreneur Robert Herjavec, previously a dragon on CBC’s Dragons’ Den and now one of the sharks in the US production Shark Tank; his wife, optometrist Diane Plese Herjavec; and their three children moved to their opulent, classical home 13 years ago.
At the time of the purchase, the mansion was one of the priciest listings in the country. “The house, when we first saw it, reminded us of homes in Palm Beach… large mansions,” says Robert, recalling his awe at finding such a property in the city. “We did not know they existed in Toronto to that scale. When I saw it for the first time, I ran in yelling ‘Wow, wow, wow.’ I was beyond awestruck.”
