Sconces dress up a wall creatively

BY INGA SEMIONOV

Iluce Concepts Lighting + Design Throughout history, wall sconces were used to hold candles and torches on walls. Today, they’re a design element that creates ambience in a space or illuminates art.

Wall sconces are available in a wide variety of styles, shapes and finishes, and many have high-tech elements incorporated into them. When designing your space, consider a daring and creative approach with wall sconces as eye candy. Before choosing a sconce, however, you must identify the purpose of your lighting. That will enable you to decide where to mount your sconces. Hint: they can be useful where floor space is minimal, including in hallways, staircases and small entryways. The placement of sconces depends on their size, design and purpose. Some can even replace a piece of art because their extravagant design and large size will add an extra punch of decor to a space. The installation of wall sconces may require an electrical box and you’ll need to hire a professional electrician to install them. If your wall has not been wired, you may want to consider plug-in wall sconces that will simplify your installation requirements. There are many decorative and task plug-in sconces from which to choose once you have identified the purpose. Don’t be shy. Explore the exciting world of lighting. Dress up your walls with electrifying fixtures that will add ambience, create a mood and be a special decor touch. For any questions and more ideas, visit me at Iluce Concepts Lighting + Design.
