In their first-ever collaboration, the famous Norwegian architectural and design firm Snøhetta has combined forces with the quality craftmanship of Scandinavian jewellery company Georg Jensen to create the nine-piece Terra collection.

“The idea was to create a world of plants, derived from the logic of Nature,” says Marius Myking, director of product design at Snøhetta. “The planters are deliberately reflected upside down, giving the plant the opportunity to take root the same way it does in Nature.”   Although Georg Jensen has long been known for its vases, this was the company’s first foray into terra cotta. “Terra continues a tradition of challenging ourselves with the combination of metals and other materials,” says Georg Jensen’s chief creative officer, Nicholas Manville. “Georg Jensen himself was a ceramicist before he founded the company. In a way, sculpting bold, metal pieces with a ceramicist’s eye has been at the core of our design approach for over a century. It is exceptional to see the materials living together in one collection.”

The Terra collection comprises three sizes of plant pot; the two largest are crafted of terra cotta and the smallest of stainless steel. Three unique pots that are crafted from stainless steel are reversible. There’s a tray with a set of three small planters (ideal for herbs); a stunning sculptural stainless-steel, no-drip, watering can; and a watering globe that resembles a drop of water.

Inspired by the organic forms found in Nature, the combination of the earthy terra cotta with the contemporary aesthetic of stainless steel is as unique as it is dynamic. Whether used as standalone features or gathered in a group, these pots make a statement. The collection is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. •
