It has been two and a half months since the start of the COVID-19 lockdown. Although I’m enjoying the funny Tik Tok videos people are posting, I find myself longing for the return of normal life. I am a student in an intensive pottery program and I miss it terribly. Creative by nature, I needed something to fill that void. Enter Domestika, an online classroom with a wide variety of classes. From botanical watercolour painting to the creation of manga characters, this resource can teach you how to paint like a pro during lockdown.

Watercolour Portrait

Ana Santos is an Instagram sensation with a following of 232,000 – and for a good reason. Her watercolour illustrations are something to behold. Santos teaches a class on the techniques she uses to create her famous watercolour portraits. This includes analog and digital techniques.  For more information on her class,  click here.

Botanical Illustration with Watercolours

Paulina Maciel is the founder of Canela Estudio, and she has turned botanical-watercolour illustration into her career. Designing for such brands as Desigual, Maciel has made a name for herself. In this class you will learn the step-by-step processes involved in recreating flowers and plants in a watercolour painting. For more information on her class, click here.

Creation of Manga Characters

This one is good for children as well as adults. Learn how to design and illustrate Japanese comic characters with Andrea Jen. As you delve into the history of manga, you will be immersed in a world of cartoons and their artistic influences. You will learn how to draw male and female anatomy in its front, back, profile and three-quarter views. You will also learn how to draw basic facial expressions corresponding to each emotion. And finally, you will learn how to draw your characters in motion, illustrating everyday situations. For more information on Jen’s class, click here.

If these classes don’t interest you there many others to choose from, including photography, marketing, technology and architecture to name a few. •
