Festival Mode & Design is taking over the heart of downtown Montreal this week, showcasing and celebrating the work of designers, tastemakers and up-and-coming creators. Activities include fashion shows, live creative sessions, design showcasing and musical performances.

The full schedule of events is enough to make any fashionista or design enthusiast flock to the nearly 50 shows, and Groupe Sensation Mode — the organizing and production force behind the fashion — is anticipating over half a million visitors this year, making it the biggest fashion fest its kind in North America. It will be held at Place des Festivals from Aug. 20 to 23.

To start off the week, a crop of local Montreal designers are presenting their 2015 spring-summer collections Aug. 18 and 19. These designers are the editorial choice of Garance Doré, a leading international fashion influencer and this year’s FDF Collections Commissioner. The select designers are:

  • Eve Gravel
  • Mylène B
  • Niapsou Design
  • Travis Taddeo
  • UNTTLD
  • Ying Gao

“For me, what is important is a unique design and a desire to communicate – which, today, is a key quality for a fashion designer,” said Doré, in a press release.”These qualities were important in how I made my selections.”

The selected designers will present their work free of charge in a grand collective runway show as part of FDF Collections at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal.

Other events not to miss include the annual Stiletto Race Aug. 20, Lunch Beat Montreal‘s latest instalment on Aug. 22, and the pop-up shops on site.
