Once upon a time, basements were just a space in which to do laundry, store things and harbour monsters, if you were young (or perhaps not so young). Then they started being fixed up and became rumpus rooms and TV rooms and Dad’s workshop. Maybe they had cold corners for wine storage.
Nowadays, basements hardly deserve to be called basements; they’re just another level for gracious living.
