The International Garden Festival is taking place at the Redford Gardens in Grand-Métis, Que., until Sept. 28 and presenting 22 contemporary living exhibitions.

Recognized as one of the leading garden festivals in the world, more than 110 gardens have been created since its inaugural presentation in 2000, and it has welcomed over 900,000 garden enthusiasts to its grounds. An innovative forum for experimentation in a host of landscape and design disciplines, the event has hosted over 200 designers from 15 countries to create and showcase cutting-edge, contemporary gardens.

The Sacré potager (Secret Garden) installation by Atelier Barda is a cheeky mix of secular and sacred altars, where “wood evokes oratories” and the Quebecois culinary garden heritage takes the spotlight.

Working between Montreal and Paris, Atelier Barda have a mission to question the contemporary transformation of territories. Founded by architects, they aim to take collaborative and experimental approaches to urban spaces that are simple and poetic.

The designers explained Sacré potager means to “encourage the return of heirloom vegetables, indigenous plants, and local food in our gardens and on our shelves.”
