Pantone has released their 2015 spring season colour and design palettes and we have combed through the colours to forecast the trendiest combinations.
Pantone’s line of colours — entitled, New Harmonies: Changing Themes in Colour/Design Trends — have vast and broad influences, from fashion to flora, and their spring picks for 2015 is a line called “En Plein Air.”
Here’s our favourite palette combinations to get you ready for another year.
Wild Blue Yonder: Petrol Blue and White
Petrol blue was present in 2014, but we suspect it to see even better days in 2015. Designers always love a classic pairing of navy with white, and blue always remains in style — but it’s all about finding that certain shade of blue. A tone to try is 19-4526 Blue Coral. This lovely blue, with a hint of green, is great with white. It has a bit of mystique, and we expect this colour to stay in for a while… perhaps it will even be Pantone’s next colour of the year.
Sunny Days: Azure Blue and Moss Yellow
Turquoise is punchy and fresh, and the yellow has just enough green to keep it edgy. Go for tones 17-4139 Azure Blue; 16-0840 Antique Moss. It’s a great combination if you want your space to be quirky and bright. Work this palette into home-made knits, dip-dyed furniture and blonde wood for a delightful, Scandinavian-style home.
Bold Classics: Grey and Burgundy
In 2015, a lot of rich colours are back, including garnet reds and burgundies. These dramatic tones will be paired with the new classic — neutral grey. Tones to try: 19-1555 Red Dahlia; 18-0601 Charcoal; 17-1311 Desert Taupe. Follow the example pictured (first slider) and go for charcoal mouldings, and don’t be afraid to use your ceiling for the accent colour.
Refined Neutrals: Taupe, Black, and Caramel
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen cold and warm neutrals together, but this colour scheme should not be underestimated. This palette feels modern and very flexible for decor. Caramel tones and a sombre black look glamorous and meld complimentarily with taupe. It’s a great simple and subdued way to switch up your colour scheme.
Alluring Ebony: Black and White
Although this one may seem like a no-brainer, it can actually be one of the most difficult palettes to get right, since the more limited your neutral palettes are, the more texture and interest is required to add interest to the space. Incorporate a glimmering chandelier, cow hide rug or lacquered armoire to bring life to the contrasting scheme.
Lady-Like: Pastel Blue, Pink and Purple
For a delicate-yet-eclectic look, this palette works perfectly. Pastel blues are still in and we’ll be seeing them paired with other pastels, like orchid purple as well as rose. Fresh cut flowers and layered rugs give this scheme even more charm. Tones to try: 15-2210 Orchid Smoke; 16-4010 Dusty Blue; 13-1114 Bellini.
