After the long months of winter, even the hardiest North Americans are starting to feel the winter blahs. While we are still a few weeks away from May flowers, there are ways to spring up your space using one of 2014’s hottest trends: bright colour and neon.
If you think we left neon in the eighties and nineties, you might be surprised to find that these shades have made a major comeback in interior decor. A hint of hot pink or bright lime green can go a long way to lighten the mood in your home. Initially, working with neon shades can seem intimidating. These electric colours have some serious bite! But here are some hints to make it work:
Play with your current palette to work in one or two home accessories. Throws and pillows are an easy and inexpensive way to incorporate this trend.
Try using a neon shade of an existing accent colour. For example, if you have green accents, try adding a neon green, blue or yellow.
If you’re working with woods and beiges, try a hot pink or yellow to liven up the space.
A combination that’s particularly trendy at the moment is a mixture of pastels and neons.
But the most important thing to remember when it comes to colour is: be bold and have fun!
