Patio parties, backyard barbecues, stargazing and campfires. Canadians can hardly wait for summer so they can make the most of outdoor living. Creating an outdoor oasis is all about establishing harmony, and striking a balance between a retreat and one that offers ample space for social gatherings.
“In good landscaping you always want multiple destination points,” says Darren Bosch, design and client services manager of The Landmark Group, a Thornbury, Ontario-based landscape design company.
Witness this garden, which Landmark calls Fire On Water. It offers four destinations: a sun-tanning “lounge,” a spacious hot tub area, an upper deck and a peaceful meditation space that’s also perfect for reading.
The homeowners, who have three daughters, wanted several places for social gatherings while keeping the need for maintenance to a minimum. In the design, the couple were willing to push boundaries to establish an outdoor space that is as sophisticated as it is comfortable.
