Coastal Chic Living

Mood Board 2

Who wouldn’t love to live on a beautiful beachfront property? Well, just because your home does not come with a view of the water does not mean that you can’t make it feel beach-y.

Recently, I redesigned a home for a family that requested a casual, no-fuss aesthetic. They told me they did not want a space to “show off” to their friends or host fancy cocktail parties, but rather a space they could really live in with their two young children and dog without fear of a rip or stain.

The woman of the home also mentioned that, if she had her way, she would simply live on the beach. This gave me the direction I needed in search of the perfect design scheme for this family home.

My initial thought when looking for inspiration was white driftwood washed up on a beach with crystal-clear, turquoise water. The organic lines of the driftwood almost look messy and have that “no fuss” attitude the family was looking for. The vibrant turquoise water suggests purity and freshness, while the light beige sand suggests a sense of  calm.

Instead of doing a literal interpretation of the beach, it’s nice to use abstract art and natural fabrics, as it reads more as “beach inspired.” The homeowners also had a lot of photographs of themselves at the beach, as well as souvenirs, shells and other items that remind them of their trips. These items, displayed on open shelves in the living room, will fill their home with happy memories of coastal bliss.

For more inspiration, take a look at the actual project renders here.
